Overview of Department
The Latin American and Latino Studies Department at UC Santa Cruz invites you to consider embarking on a very rewarding journey where you will have the ability to combine academic research with practical "real world" experience. The department prepares students for bilingual and multi-cultural participation in a rapidly changing world. Global economic and cultural processes are transforming both Latin America and Latina/o communities while deep historical legacies continue to be present. We integrate the study of Chicano and Latina/o communities in the United States with analysis of the histories, politics, cultures, and societies of Latin America and the Caribbean.
