Latin American and Latino Studies, the Center for Justice, Tolerance and Community, and Merrill College at the University of California, Santa Cruz present:

Social Change Across Borders is a project which seeks to bring together grassroots leaders from both Latin America and Latina/o communities in the U.S. The Institute will offer participants a time to reflect on transnational trends that affect their work, specific training and education, and an opportunity to network and collaborate with other organizers. The Institute is held at the University of California at Santa Cruz. The natural beauty of this campus in the mountains overlooking the Monterey Bay provides a relaxing backdrop for this type of educational retreat.

What’s transnational organizing?

Organizing which accepts as a basic premise that the linkages and relationships between local, national, and international forces are fundamental to understanding the patterns of power and powerlessness in our communities.

The goal of the Institute is to deepen the understanding of these dynamics and to share and explore the best strategies for organizing for social justice.

"the Summer Institute has become an invaluable resource and critical part of my own support network… it has provided community activists and organizers a unique forum to reflect on global trends, while providing training and skills to build networks for action."

"the lessons, ideas, perspectives and friends developed through the experience were invaluable in my efforts to develop partnerships and collaborations to address the social, economic, and environmental challenges of the borderlands…"
