LALS Graduate Program Proposal
The Latin American and Latino Studies Graduate Program proposal is available as a PDF document.
The Coordinating Committee on Graduate Affairs, a branch of the University of California Academic Senate, voted to approve the Doctoral Program in Latin American and Latino Studies in March 2012. The Committee commented:
"The proposed program will be the first in the country to unite analysis of micro and transnational transformations within the Americas. This merging allows for the preparation of a new generation of scholars that are able to produce the research and teaching that complex global interactions require... Currently, there are no similar Ph.D. programs in the UC system. Regionally, only Stanford University offers a Masters of Arts in Latin American Studies and joint degree programs that combine Latin American Studies with Business, Law or Medicine.
"The reviewers were unanimous in assessing this as a very strong proposal for which they strongly recommended approval. All three reviewers concurred that the program proposers have put forward an excellent curriculum plan. They also agreed that the program has brought together an expert faculty to implement the program."
