Brava! for Women in the Arts presents dance and music ensemble La Mezcla in Pachuquísmo, an all-female exploration of the untold story of Chicanas during the 1940s Zoot Suit Riots.
Based on the book, The Woman in the Zoot Suit: Gender, Nationalism, and the Cultural Politics of Memory (Duke University Press, 2009) by LALS Associate Professor Catherine Ramírez, 2019-20 Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University, this electrifying performance will combine tap dance, Mexican Zapateado, Son Jarocho, Jazz music, spoken word, and archival video.
